All glories to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the ocean of mercy.
Parikrama is a devotional activity recommended by all our acharyas and has been performed since time immemorial. Performing Parikrama is a boost in our spiritual life because it puts together the following: the sacred land, the Holy Name, Devotees association, Krsna katha and Prasadam. Bhakti Yoga means to engage the senses in devotional service. Having all the senses engage during the time of Parikrama has a tremendous effect in one’s faith and enthusiasm. Srila Prabhupada personally advised all of us to come to India EVERY YEAR and perform Sri Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama during Gaur Purnima time, when a devotee argued that it may cost so much money, Srila Prabhupada said “so, then stop eating because it also cost so much money”. We can understand by that statement that Srila Prabhupada is comparing the Parikrama activity to the essential activity of eating to keep one’s body alive, so our conclusion is that, Parikrama is fundamental to keep our devotional life in the fire of the highest enthusiasm.
After Performing Parikrama all the devotees feel a great enthusiasm to keep their daily Sadhana and devotional activities. All of them described it as a Life changing experience!
It is difficult to describe it with words, better is to experience it fully by seeing the beautiful landscape of Navadvipa Dhama, smelling the village life in the early morning, hearing to amazing Kirtans and Katha about the most merciful incarnation of the Lord and His associates, walking on the sacred earth and chanting the Holy Names to our full heart’s content.
